The Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad regrets to announce the passing of Life Member, Past President Clarence D. Carpenter, Jr. Clarence joined our department in 1973. He served as our President for 15 years from 1977-1991 and our treasurer for 18 years from 1996-2013 where he stepped down at the age of 89. He served as the President of the Charles County Volunteer Firemen's Association in 1979 and 1989, President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association in 1981, and President of the Maryland State Firemen's Association in 1986. Throughout his 42 years in the fire service, he held many other positions and won many awards. Clarence was a legend within our department and will be greatly missed by all.
