On July 18th of this year Charlie Wills completed his 60th consecutive year as an active member of the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. At the age of 14, Charlie Wills joined the Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. on July 18th 1955. He transferred to the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in October 1961. Since becoming a member of our department, he has served in every Administrative Position, numerous Operations Positions and on nearly every committee. He has represented our department and held many positions at the County, Southern Maryland and State Level. Today Charlie Received many gifts and proclamations for his 60 years of service. The members of PHVFD made Charlie our Assistant EMS Chief Emeritus, re-named our EMS person of the year award after Charlie and presented him with a custom made and engraved watch for his service. At the end of the service, Charlie had to opportunity to say a few words and thank everyone, he then walked over to Engine 72 and smacked the word VOLUNTEER on our door seal and said "Thats what is important to me, that's what it's all about" Thank you for your service Charlie, you are a true inspiration for many and we look forward to many more years with you!
